Tribute to Charlie Byrd
WITH CHUCK REDD & FRIENDS
Drummer and vibraphonist Chuck Redd joined the Charlie Byrd Trio at the age of 21, embarking on a decade-spanning career at the apex of American jazz. Now, Redd leads an a-list tribute to his mentor and friend, Charlie Byrd, the American guitarist who brought Brazilian jazz to the US and a critical figure in its international popularity.
Redd shares the stage with world-class saxophonist, Harry Allen, who Stan Getz once described as the “fulfillment of his idea of the perfect tenor saxophone soloist.” Allen has shared the stage and recording studio with Ray Brown, Herb Ellis, Sheryl Crow, and many others. Providing vocals is bossa nova singer Maucha Adnet, an accomplished vocalist who has performed, toured, and recorded with legendary composer Antonio Carlos Jobim and his band, Banda Nova. Dynamic guitar virtuoso Nate Najar, bassist Tommy Cecil, and drummer Matt Home round out this all-star show. Enjoy selections from Jazz Samba, Byrd’s seminal album with Stan Getz in addition to works by The Great Guitars™, Byrd’s guitar supergroup with Herb Ellis and Barney Kessel.
