With Front Country
It’s not often one band’s set allows you to dance the jitterbug and do-si-do. The Bumper Jacksons are wildly eclectic. One minute it’s jubilant horns and swinging rhythms, the next it’s twangy country or a sultry jazz ballad. Unafraid to scrap together new sounds from forgotten 78s, the Bumper Jacksons boldly and elegantly pay homage to traditional sounds while fashioning their own unique, DIY style. Their shows are unpredictable, fresh, and lighthearted, with just about every instrument under the sun (banjo, pedal steel, washboard, clarinet, kazoo, et al.) making an appearance.
Praised by NPR for their “instrumental virtuosity” and “expansive musical ideas,” Front Country trace their roots to bluegrass shows in San Francisco’s Mission District. From there, Front Country morphed into a melodic powerhouse, transcending their stringband origins to become a sweeping blend of texture and sound. Anchored by lead singer-songwriter Melody Walker’s “rafter-shaking” vocals, Front Country create songs that take flight with grace and gravitas, pushing the boundaries of bluegrass into something truly dynamic and original. Their latest album Other Love Songs will be released this April.
